Mexican architect Teodoro Gonzalez de Leon dies at 90
MEXICO CITY – Mexican architect Teodoro Gonzalez de Leon, whose buildings are a part of Mexico City’s modern landscape, has died at age 90
The National College said in a statement that Gonzalez de Leon died Friday morning. The cause of death was not given.
Gonzalez de Leon teamed up with fellow Mexican architect Abraham Zabludovsky to design a number of prominent buildings over decades, including the National College, the Rufino Tamayo contemporary art museum and a remodeling of the National Auditorium. Zabludovsky died in 2003.
Mexico’s fine arts world celebrated Gonzalez de Leon’s career on the occasion of his 90th birthday in May. Even then he spoke of ongoing projects.
Mexican President Enrique Pena Nieto says through his official Twitter account that Gonzalez de Leon’s work enriches the architectural landscape.
