Police: No gun found after barricaded man found dead

Baltimore’s police commissioner says no gun was found at the home where a man was discovered dead after a standoff during which an officer fired at him.

Commissioner Michael Harrison said at a news conference Wednesday that 57-year-old Kevin Mason repeatedly said he had a gun and would shoot officers responding to an assault report Sunday. Police played body cameras footage and 911 calls, including one in which Mason threatens to “kill every last one of them.”

While Mason was outside, Harrison says Officer John Johnson fired two shots and Mason retreated. Later, Mason was found dead inside. Harrison did not confirm whether Mason was struck by the officer’s bullets.

Detective Jeremy Silbert says Mason was black and Johnson is white. He says Johnson is on routine administrative duty.
