SAO PAULO – Brazilian police have shot and killed a 10-year-old boy they say opened fire on them when they surrounded the car he and a friend had stolen.
The incident occurred Thursday night in the upscale Morumbi neighbourhood in Sao Paulo. Police say officers were on a routine patrol when they spotted a car that had been reported stolen. When they forced the car to stop, the boy, who was driving the vehicle, opened fire and in a brief exchange of fire was killed.
Police say the boy, whose name was not revealed, was armed with .38 calibre pistol.
His 11-year-old friend was slightly injured and was allowed to go home with his mother after being questioned.
