Ex-General Electric site eyed for development to host tours
FORT WAYNE, Ind. – A company hoping to redevelop a former General Electric complex in Fort Wayne is opening the sprawling site for public tours.
The former 31-acre GE campus that’s been vacant since January 2015 once employed more than 10,000 workers who produced an array of products.
The Journal Gazette reports RTM Ventures and Greater Fort Wayne Inc. are seeking public support for proposed Electric Works development’s $221 million first phase.
RTM Ventures seeks $65 million in public funding for the project, which would feature more than 600,000 square feet of space for offices, retail, restaurants and housing.
Public tours of the site will be conducted on Tuesdays and Wednesdays throughout May. RTM Ventures partner Josh Parker says they’ll allow the public to “see firsthand the transformational potential of this project.”
