Germany’s Cologne Cathedral gets new St. John Paul II relic
BERLIN – Cologne’s famous cathedral will soon be getting a new relic of a saint, with the gift of a drop of Pope St. John Paul II’s blood from Krakow Cardinal Stanislaw Dziwisz.
Dziwisz, the former aide of the Polish pontiff who died in 2005, gave the relic to Cologne Archbishop Rainer Maria Woelki as a 60th birthday present.
The Cologne archdiocese announced Tuesday Woelki is now giving the relic to the cathedral.
It is meant to replace another drop of blood from John Paul, who was declared a saint in 2014, which was stolen from the cathedral in June.
The archdiocese says it’s not yet known when the relic will be put on display.
