The worldwide community of museums will celebrate the 36th Anniversary of International Museum Day around May 18th, 2013.
In 2013, Museums (Memory + Creativity) = Social Change is the theme of International Museum Day. The International Council of Museums (ICOM) established International Museum Day in 1977 to encourage public awareness of the role of museums in the development of society. Momentum has been rising unabated ever since. In 2012, International Museum Day garnered record-breaking participation with almost 32,000 museums hosting events in more than 129 countries.
In support of International Museum Day, the Kamloops Museum and Archives will be offering free admission on Saturday, May 18th, 2013 from 9:30 am to 4:30 pm.
