Robert Elstone, who oversaw the Toronto Wolfpack’s short stay in English rugby league’s top tier last year, is stepping down as executive director of Super League.
Super League made the announcement in a two-paragraph release Tuesday.
“Super League can confirm that it has received notice of executive chairman Robert Elstone’s, intention to leave his position. The matter will be discussed by the Super League board and no further comment will be made at this time.”
The 57-year-old Elstone moved to rugby league in June 2018 after 13 years as chief executive of soccer’s Everton.
The Wolfpack announced July 20 they could not afford to play out the remainder of the pandemic-disrupted Super League season. On Nov. 2, their bid for reinstatement in 2021 under new ownership was voted down.
