8 police killed in traffic accident in Mexico

MEXICO CITY – Eight police officers in the Mexican Pacific coast state of Michoacan died in a traffic accident Monday, the state’s public safety agency said.

The state police truck was part of a 15-vehicle convoy when it overturned Monday morning, the agency said.

The agency did not explain what caused the crash. Among the dead were six men and one woman. One of two injured officers later died.

The convoy was on its way to Los Reyes, a town about 300 miles (485 kilometres) west of Mexico City.
