Wibit Water Park bringing promise of summer fun to Penticton

PENTICTON –  A new way to enjoy the Okanagan Lake waterfront is coming to Penticton later this month.

Rylie and his father Randy Gallagher are partners in bringing the Penticton Wibit Water Park to Okanagan Beach.

Set up will begin on June 15 and the two entrepreneurs will open their floating water park across from Salty’s Beach House Restaurant, just east of the SS Sicamous, on June 20.

The Penticton park is known as a 'Sports Park 65' model, consisting of a series of inflatable platforms, and will be set up like a track, Rylie says. He says it is a great way to get physical activity and get out in the sun and water, and is also a great way to challenge friends or yourself.

The water park will consist of an obstacle course with trampolines, balance beams, blast bags, high jumps, slides and monkey bars. The tallest piece of the park is 12' high, and there’s room on the course for up to 65 participants at a time.

“It’s a tough course — challenging, but fun,” Rylie says.

Lifeguards will monitor the course from the beach as well as from the park, and all kids will be required to wear lifejackets. The park will be open seven days a week from 10 a.m. until 8 p.m. from June 20 through Sept.12. The Penticton Wibit Water Park will be open to kids aged five and up, though it is recommended kids aged five to seven be accompanied by an adult.

The Gallaghers also operate a Wibit Water Park in Kelowna, now in its second year of operation at Kelowna City Park.

I have been looking for news in the South Okanagan - SImilkameen for 20 years, having turned a part time lifelong interest into a full time profession. After five years publishing a local newsletter, several years working as a correspondent / stringer for several local newspapers and seven years as editor of a Similkameen weekly newspaper, I joined iNFOnews.ca in 2014. My goal in the news industry has always been to deliver accurate and interesting articles about local people and places. My interest in the profession is life long - from my earliest memories of grade school, I have enjoyed writing.
As an airborne geophysical surveyor I travelled extensively around the globe, conducting helicopter borne mineral surveys.
I also spent several years at an Okanagan Falls based lumber mill, producing glued-wood laminated products.
As a member of the Kaleden community, I have been involved in the Kaleden Volunteer Fire Department for 22 years, and also serve as a trustee on the Kaleden Irrigation District board.
I am currently married to my wife Judy, of 26 years. We are empty-nesters who enjoy living in Kaleden with our Welsh Terrier, Angus, and cat, Tibbs.
Our two daughters, Meagan and Hayley, reside in Richmond and Victoria, respectively.
