Kamloops RCMP warn about Revenue Canada phone scam

KAMLOOPS – It appears there is a Revenue Canada phone scam making the rounds in Kamloops and RCMP are warning residents to be careful.

RCMP have received several calls within the past week about the phone scam. The caller tells the recipient they are in arrears with their taxes and they owed $1,900. The amount is instructed to be paid in cash, which Cpl. Cheryl Bush says is an immediate red flag.

In the latest instance, the recipient knew they did not have any outstanding taxes and, therefore, did not arrange any payment. The caller became quite persistent, even hostile, and called back a second time.

While the RCMP is not aware of individuals who have actually responded, they are reminding the public to verify all calls before making any transactions.

Bush says while they were unable to track the source of the calls, they don’t seem to be targeted.

“We’re just reminding people to be very diligent and savvy to these kinds of calls,” Bush says.

  1. I always suggest you to just ignore these kind of calls. Block the number, and report them to the police directly. Also, share their numbers to all of your family and friends. Additionally, put their numbers widely, to Twitter, Facebook, blogs, or some sites like http://whycall.me, so that everyone will knows that they are scammers, and everyone will block the numbers before they call.

  2. I got a call like that, and I just started breathing really loud. The guy said Mam are you going to talk or just keep breathing hard. LOL. he finally hung up. Was funny, had to be there.

  3. Too bad that to large a population is only interested in the big buck no matter how it affects someone else’s life, but just listen to them scream if someone else tries to do them.I think it’s call Karma. What goes around comes around.
