RCMP warn teens about partying in Kamloops parks

KAMLOOPS – Stop partying on city parks and stop wasting RCMP resources.

That's the message Kamloops RCMP is sending to teens and their parents in response to weekend parties.

This past weekend police received multiple complaints about a party in McGowan Park in response from neighbourhood residents.

Cpl. Cheryl Bush says police will be issuing violation tickets to those who are found to be breaking liquor control and licensing acts or any City of Kamloops bylaws. The fine for a minor in possession of alcohol is $230, and the by-law fine for being in a park between 11 p.m. and 5 a.m. is $100.

Police will contact the parents of offending minors and ask them to take responsibility for their children, regardless of the time of night.

While public safety is the RCMP’s top priority, Bush says RCMP need to have their resources available for true emergencies — especially on busy Friday and Saturday nights.

“We realize it's graduation time, there are celebrations to be had, however, last weekend was an example of valuable police resources being tied up in regards to this,” Bush says.

  1. and you must be the first person who has never partied and drank a little when you were a teenager eh? yes we want them to be safe, but cut them a little slack why don’t you and society; instead hear you are casting stones like you’re a saint. and as for my other point; why can’t I or you go into a park at night and enjoy it? answer-welcome to the puppet police state. “this ain’t Canada”-police officer quote during G20 in Toronto.

  2. well let them party in batch or red lake…I can’t believe there is a ban from using a park..if people can keep it quite why should people be allowed to use it…like wtf is this Russia or something…oh wait…even Russia isn’t that inbred.
