Suspicious fire near senior care home

KELOWNA – Arson is the suspected cause of a late night fire behind Cottonwoods Care Centre over the weekend.

The investigation is in the early stages, but Const. Kris Clark says it looks like a type of fuel was poured onto the ground near a chain link fence that separates Cottonwoods and a private residence on Glenwood Ave.

The small fire was reported Saturday night at around 10:30 p.m. and the homeowners son says their garden sprinklers were on at the time and the fire was already out when firefighters arrived.

According to Clark, “persons of interest to the investigation have been identified and there is no information to suggest that the public is in danger.”

Damage was limited to the fence and the bases of several cedar trees.

Anyone with any information is asked to contact police or Crimestoppers.
