Chiefs coach Reid says Canadian Duvernay-Tardif suffered sprained knee injury

KANSAS CITY, Kan. – Coach Andy Reid of the Kansas City Chiefs had some good news regarding the status of injured Canadian Laurent Duvernay-Tardif.

Reid told reporters Wednesday that Duvernay-Tardif, a native of Mont-Saint-Hilaire, Que., suffered a sprained knee in Monday night’s 29-20 win over the Washington Redskins. The six-foot-five, 321-pound offensive guard is listed as day to day.

Duvernay-Tardif signed a five-year, US$41.25-million extension this off-season with $20 million guaranteed. He was injured on the Chiefs’ second play from scrimamge when teammate Mitchell Schwartz fell on to his knee while Duvernay-Tardif was blocking for running back Kareem Hunt.

Duvernay-Tardif was enjoying a solid 2017 campaign. Pro Football Focus had reported he was one of six guards in the NFL who hadn’t allowed a pressure this season.

Kansas City selected Duvernay-Tardif in the sixth round of the 2014 NFL draft out of McGill University, where he’s also studying to become a doctor.

It’s unlikely Duvernay-Tardif will play Sunday when the unbeaten Chiefs (4-0) face the Houston Texans (2-2), but his injury isn’t considered to be season-ending.
