Oilers sign collegiate forward Drake Caggiula to entry-level deal

EDMONTON – Highly touted collegiate star Drake Caggiula was signed to a two-year entry level contract on Saturday by the Edmonton Oilers.

Caggiula appeared in 39 games this season with the University of North Dakota in the National Collegiate Hockey Conference, scoring 25 goals and 26 assists, with 60 penalty minutes and a plus-46 rating.

The 21-year-old Caggiula led North Dakota to the 2016 NCAA Frozen Four title as an assistant captain and also earned the tournament’s Most Outstanding Player award.

He ended the 2015-16 campaign with a 12-game point streak that saw him earn a point in each game at the NCAA tournament, as well as two goals in the championship game.

The five-foot-10, 185-pound winger has accumulated 62 goals and 65 assists and 94 penalty minutes in 162 career games with North Dakota.
