TRU releases confidential student information (again)

KAMLOOPS – Thompson Rivers University has leaked confidential student information for the second time this year.

A copy of an email obtained by InfoNews.ca appears to indicate a student’s name, student number, personal email address and the fact the student was transferring to another school was sent to an active listserve in the department of the arts.

The university subsequently released an email apologizing for the breach and the university asked students to delete the email with the personal information from their inboxes.

Dean of Arts James Gaisford refused to comment because the original email contained 'personal information.'

University spokesperson Christopher Seguin says the breach was a result of human error. This is an isolated incident and the university is working to ensure it will not happen again by restricting access to certain listserves.

In March, the university released confidential student information via the university’s online portal and in April, the university said an online glitch was responsible for sending out 504 erroneous acceptance letters for the university's nursing program.
