Changes coming to Highway 1; Pritchard interchange opens Wednesday

PRITCHARD – After more than a year of construction, the Pritchard interchange is set to open this week.

On Wednesday morning, traffic will begin using the new Pritchard interchange, located approximately 40 kilometres east of Kamloops. The new interchange is part of the upgrade of Highway 1 between Kamloops and the Alberta border to four lanes and is intended to provide safer access to the highway for the community.

The Ministry of Transportation reminds motorists to obey traffic control personnel and construction speed limits and watch for workers and highway message boards as work continues on the second phase of the Monte Creek to Pritchard project. The second phase is expected to be completed later this year.

The second phase of the project comes at a cost of nearly $23.5 million, bringing the total cost of the 16-kilometre project to more than $61.5 million.
