Kamloops Airport numbers continue to climb

KAMLOOPS – The upward trend in the number of travellers coming through the gates at Fulton Field continued in May, following a slower start to the year.

The first three months of 2015 saw a slight decline in the number of travellers coming through Kamloops Airport but both April and May offered an increase in those numbers, bringing the total number of travellers this year close to what was seen in the first five months of 2014.

In May 2015 a total of more than 24,000 travellers came through the gates, bringing the total for the year to 133,488. In 2014 a total of 133,593 travellers used the Kamloops Airport in January through May.

Traveller numbers have levelled off following a decline in resource workers in Northern Alberta, managing director Fred Legace says in a release. He notes the direct flight to Edmonton has helped to increase the number of travellers over the past two months.

An early start to the wildfire season, as well as an increase in cargo and courier traffic, resulted in an increase in vehicle movements at the airport as well. A total of 2,950 flight movements have been recorded so far in 2015, up from 2,676 in 2014.
