Lumby shooter charged with murder
LUMBY – Murder charges have been laid against the man suspected of shooting a Vernon teacher to death before turning the gun on himself in a rural part of Lumby last week.
Howard Everett of Lumby is still in hospital after the body of a 51-year-old woman was found at a home in the 300 block of Trinity Valley Rd.
Police found the body and the injured man inside the home and the woman was pronounced dead at the scene. Everett was flown to Kelowna General Hospital for treatment of a self-inflicted gunshot wound and has been charged with second-degree murder.
Const. Kris Clark says the two are known to each other and had been dating “for a brief period of time.”
“The initial investigation has determined that there have been no previous calls to police for attendance to this property during their short relationship,” Clark says.
The Southeast District Major Crime Unit with assistance from North Okanagan Detachment General Investigation Section and the B.C. Coroners Service continue to investigate.
Anyone with any information who has yet to speak with police are asked to contact the Vernon RCMP at 250-545-7171 or remain anonymous by calling Crime Stoppers at 1-800-222-TIPS (8477).
