Man involved in Mexico crash pulls gun on ambulance crew

MEXICO CITY – Mexican officials say the driver of an SUV involved in a traffic accident that killed eight people in western Mexico pulled a gun on an ambulance crew taking him to the hospital and escaped in a taxi. Authorities say he was caught later when he sought medical treatment at a clinic.

The Michoacan state prosecutors’ office says most of the dead were in a car hit by the 26-year-old man’s SUV on Sunday.

The office said Monday that the driver and another occupant of the SUV suffered injuries and were being taken to a hospital in the nearby city of Uruapan when the man drew a gun and demanded they be let out. It says the men fled in a taxi, but the driver was detained later.
