Rookie Norman Powell elevated to Raptors starting lineup against Miami Heat

TORONTO – Rookie Norman Powell got the start Tuesday as Raptors coach Dwane Casey moved Patrick Patterson to the bench for Game 1 of the Eastern Conference semifinal against the Miami Heat.

It’s Powell’s second playoff start. He also was in the starting five for Game 1 against Indiana.

The 22-year-old from UCLA, a second-round pick taken 46th overall in the NBA draft, won praise for his gritty defensive work and timely offence against the Pacers.

The other Toronto starters were Kyle Lowry, DeMar DeRozan, DeMarre Carroll and Jonas Valanciunas.
