Massachusetts gets more time to review Rockwell art sale

PITTSFIELD, Mass. – An appeals court has dealt another blow to a Massachusetts museum’s effort to sell 40 works of art, including two by Norman Rockwell.

A judge on Wednesday granted state investigators more time to review the sale.

The Berkshire Museum last week urged the Massachusetts Appeals Court to let the case quickly proceed to trial, telling the court that it is struggling financially and needs the fight over the art sale to be resolved as quickly as possible.

The museum was set to begin auctioning off the artwork last month, but an appeals court judge granted Massachusetts Attorney General Maura Healey’s request to halt the scheduled sale.

The injunction, which expired Monday, has now been extended until Jan. 29.

The museum says it’s “disappointed” that proceedings have been delayed further.
