Missing Winnipeg woman found alive in bush near Peachland

WEST KELOWNA – When a woman walked out of the woods near Peachland last night, two ranchers knew exactly who she was.

Kara Stoyanowski, 24, of Winnipeg, had been missing for more than a week. She was last seen walking away from a recreational area south of the Okanagan Connector near Headwaters Road and Peachland Road on Tuesday, June 9.

The men found Stoyanowski at about Mile 13 of the Peachland Forest Service Road around 6:30 p.m., June 18, while checking on livestock, according to a RCMP media release.

The men brought her out of the bush and she was taken to Kelowna General Hospital by ambulance, police say. She had some minor injuries but was otherwise in good condition.

Dozens of volunteers from search and rescue groups in the Thompson-Okanagan were involved in the search for the missing woman.

RCMP had scaled back the search on Wednesday.
