Prism to rock with Kelowna music school students

KELOWNA – Students at a Kelowna music school will be getting an experience of a lifetime when they get to share the stage with members of the classic Canadian rock band Prism.

The show later this month will feature students from Wentworth Music alongside the Vancouver band behind hits like Armageddon, Young and Restless and Spaceship Superstar.

Neil Wentworth with the music school likens the experience to playing air guitar or holding a hairbrush like a microphone and singing along to your favourite song on the radio.

“We not only want to give the opportunity most of us didn’t get when we were young but we also want this to be a lifelong memory,” Wentworth says in a media release.

He says some of his students joined Prism bassist Tad Goddard last year at the school’s Canada Rocks tribute concert. Goddard performed Armageddon and he told the rest of the band what a great experience it was and the seed was planted.

“I’ve been dreaming of this night since I was in the sixth grade,” he says. “I would practice guitar in my bedroom for hours thinking one day I could be on stage performing with the bands I was listening to on the radio.”  

A Tribute to Prism with special guest Prism goes Saturday, June 27, at the Kelowna Community Theatre. Tickets are $19 or $12 for students.

All the proceeds from the concert will to help sick kids at Kelowna General Hospital.
