The Kelowna Detachment Police Victim Services presented a local businessman with an award today for his support of the program over the last 20 years.
On May 21, 2013, Kelowna RCMP Victim Services presented Mike Kakoske of the BC Liquor Store with the Police Victim Services Corporate Community Leadership Award.
Mike Kakoske was nominated for the award due to his ongoing support for the program which has been the recipient of stuffed bears from the BC Liquor Stores twin bear program over the past 20 years. Although Mike Kakoske wasn't the only local award recipient, he was unable to attend the Police Victim Services of British Columbia Conference Awards Ceremony held earlier this month.
"With the support of community-minded people like Mike Kakoske, our Police Victim Services program is better equipped to provide necessary services to victims of crime and their families," said Cary Berger, Regional District of the Central Okanagan and Victim Services Manager.
Other local award recipients:
Hanni Gebauer, Volunteer Practitioner Long Term Service Award (15 yrs)
Supt Bill McKinnon (Ret'd), Criminal Justice System Award (historical support of police based victim services programs)
