If you're speeding along the highway thinking the authorities aren't watching, take a peak skyward.
Vernon/ North Okanagan RCMP put some eyes in the sky over the long weekend as part of a safety operation on Highway 97, south of Vernon by Crystal Water Road Monday.
RCMP spokesperson Gord Molendyk says the helicopter provided an unparalleled service by giving ground police a heads up on oncoming speeders.
"The helicopter, in one instance, observed two motorcycles pass on a double solid line," Molendyk says. "The pilot kept the vehicles in sight."
He says the aircraft's presence alone worked magic. "The helicopter was so effective as it was observed by the motoring public that our officers noticed drivers slowed down (to) the speed limit," Molendyk says.
Speeding is an ongoing problem police continue to battle, and Molendyk says they are constantly busting drivers who are going much too fast.
