Penticton city councillors seeking input on waterfront upgrades at special council meeting

PENTICTON – Penticton City Council is holding a special meeting tonight at City Hall to discuss revitalization along the Skaha Marine portion of the Skaha Lake waterfront.

The proposed development agreements for an upgraded marina and new waterpark at the City’s south end were originally brought before council on May 19, following which council decided to have developer Trio Marine Group put together a series of public meetings to gather public opinion and explain the proposals.

More than 700 residents attended the six public meetings held by Trio prior to tonight’s meeting.

The special meeting tonight, June 29, will give the public an opportunity to express their views about the project in person to council.

Included in tonight’s agenda package is a petition with more than 60 names of residents opposed to the project because of the potential loss of green space.

The city councillors will also look at a housekeeping issue related to the Fees and Charges Amendment bylaw. 

Last on council’s list is a look at the Street Naming Bylaw, as council decides how it will name a new road being created by the division of a property on Cedar Road.

The special council meeting is scheduled to start at 6 p.m.
