Missing person last seen with man discovered dead in Kal Lake: Family

VERNON – A person last seen with the man who turned up dead in Kalamalka Lake has not been seen or heard from since Saturday, June 27, prompting concerned family members to plead for information from the public.

Shanna Wilson says her brother, Curtis Wilson, was last seen in Vernon Saturday morning having breakfast with a couple friends. The car they were driving was later found at the south end of Cosens Bay, near the cabins on Kalamalka Lake. The man he was with, who has yet to be identified, was found dead in the water Sunday afternoon.

“We’re all just really worried, especially with the finding of the man he was with,” Shanna says.

Curtis, 24, left his home in Lethbridge Thursday, June 24. He told his family he was on his way to visit them in Grand Prairie, but instead went to Vernon with a close friend.

“I really don’t know why they went to Vernon, I don’t know why he didn’t tell us,” Shanna says.

The last communication anyone received from him was a text Saturday night that simply read, ‘Kal Lake.’ His family notified police they were concerned about him Saturday night.

The Vernon RCMP detachment has not issued a missing persons report, and while Shanna says officers are doing what they can, the family decided to take things into their own hands Monday night by putting the word out on Facebook.

“I do believe they are doing what they can, but at the same time, it’s hard because it’s my brother,” Shanna says. “We need to find him, in some way.”

Curtis is described as just over 6 feet tall with a slim build. He typically wears glasses and a hat. He has a distinct tattoo on his forearm that says ‘Wilson’. He has dark brown hair and dark brown eyes.

Shanna, who does not live in Vernon, says it’s difficult to be so far away and is pleading with the public to help find her brother.

“It’s very hard to be just sitting here and waiting,” she says. “We don’t even know what we’re looking for at this point.”
