LLOYDMINSTER, Sask. – Jake LeBrun and Jonathan Desbiens each scored twice, including one apiece on a power play, as the West Kelowna Warriors downed the host Lloydminster Bobcats 5-2 on Saturday at the RBC Cup.
Liam Blackburn had a short-handed goal and three assists for Kelowna (1-0) in its first game of the Canada’s junior-A championship tournament.
Keelan Williams made 33 saves.
Brett Smythe and Austin O’Rourke scored for the Bobcats (0-1) while Alex Leclerc turned aside 25 shots.
Earlier, Kevin Lavoie struck twice, including the go-ahead goal in the third period as the Trenton Golden Hawks opened the tournament with a 3-2 win over the Brooks Bandits.
Danny Hanlon had the other goal for Trenton (1-0) while Daniel Urbani made 29 saves for the win.
Jesse Pereira and Kyler Nachtigall scored for the Bandits (0-1). Garret Hughson stopped 19 shots in the losing effort.
