Kamloops man permitted to keep three horses after animal-cruelty conviction

KAMLOOPS – A British Columbia man convicted of animal cruelty has been allowed to keep three horses.

A judge has fined Jody Huffman of Kamloops, B.C., $1,500 and forbidden him from owning any animals for the next five years besides the three replacement horses currently in his possession.

Huffman was convicted after a veterinarian ordered two of his sick Peruvian Paso horses shot because their condition had become so poor.

The veterinarian report said the two mares' had become severely tangled with a weed, their hooves were infected due to a lack of care and they were likely underfed.

A third animal was later put down due to poor care and its advancing age.

Huffman's lawyer argued that his client was in the midst of withdrawals from a decade-long addiction to prescribed painkillers stemming from a 2003 accident.

  1. Something is terribly wrong with our court system.Any follow-up visits from authorities?

  2. He should have be banned from having any animals for the rest of his life.

  3. Ahhh yes… Another episode of collusion between the abuser and the courts to commit cruelty to animals with no regard to the public’s demand for stiffer penalties.”Here ya go Honey. You just go out and kill as many horses as barbarically as you can cuz this here judiciary has your back. <3 <3(I'm thinking many of these judges need to be starved, sickened and ignored to find out how much pain and distress these innocent animals suffered!)How utterly sickening these decisions continue to be!

  4. No excuses……Can’t handle the excuses no matter what the person has been through…
