Heat is on in Kamloops

KAMLOOPS – After a cooler Canada Day of only 30 Celsius, things are beginning to heat up again in Kamloops, though we are still far from record-breaking temperatures.

Yesterday, July 2, temperatures reached 35 C, well below the 63-year-old record of 38.9 C and with a record of 40 C for July 3 our forecast high of 35 C will once again be well below record-breaking.

Winds are expected to reach 30 kilometres per hour gusting to 50 this afternoon and will continue tomorrow. Environment Canada is calling for temperatures to reach 32 C on Saturday but will warm up to 35 C again on Sunday. The week is expected to start off with a bang again though with temperatures forecast to hit 37 C on Monday.

If you are heading into the Okanagan over the weekend expect temperatures to be much the same, ranging from a forecast high of 31 C to 37 C over the next several days. Temperatures will be a bit closer to records but are not forecast to break them.

About 10 B.C. communities did set new records Thursday, including Lillooet, where a high of 39.4 C was enough to break a 134-year-old record of 38.9.
