Sun Peaks summer concerts kick off with a bang

SUN PEAKS – The Sun Peaks summer concert series kicked off this past weekend, the first of four more events to be held this summer.

This weekend featured blasts from the past with Canadian rock band Platinum Blonde and the voice of Foreigner, Lou Gramm.

Flashback Weekend will take place July 18 to 19 and will feature live music, a karaoke competition and all things from the 80s and 90s. Tribute bands for the weekend include Blondie, the Bangles and a special performance entitled 'Cher through the ages.'

The following weekend, July 25 to 26, is the second annual Country Fest. Free live concerts will include the Chris Buck Band and Rod Black

Aug. 14 to 16 features Sun Peaks’ rock weekend with more tribute bands, this time from the 70s and 80s. Bands include Willy and the Poorboys performing Creedence Clearwater Revival and Dreams performing Fleetwood Mac.

Rounding out the summer Aug. 29 to 30 six-time Juno award winner Colin James will perform with Canadian band Barney Bentall and The Legendary Hearts.

Aside from music Sun Peaks is hosting the Canadian Nationals Downhill Championships July 10-12, several biking and running races, Canada's Alpine Blossom Festival July 31- Aug. 2 and a film festival this summer.

Dana Reynolds is originally from Saskatchewan, but previous to Kamloops lived in Toronto for five years. She is well educated, obtaining her Masters of Arts from York University and Certificate of Broadcast Journalism from Seneca College. Dana has a passion for travel, having worked and studied in three foreign countries.
