Palestinian suffers broken jaw in suspected settler attack

RAMALLAH, Palestinian Territory – A relative of a Palestinian farmer says suspected Jewish settler vigilantes attacked him with clubs and metal pipes as he worked his land in the West Bank.

Fathi Abu Mughli, a doctor at the West Bank’s Istishari Hospital, said Tuesday that 62-year-old Tayseer Suleiman suffered multiple jaw fractures in the attack near the Palestinian village of Hawara a day earlier.

Suleiman’s 26-year-old son, Hamodeh, says his father can’t speak, but that he wrote down what happened to him.

Hawara is near Yitzhar, viewed as one of the more militant settlements in the northern West Bank.

The Israeli rights group Yesh Din says it has recorded 25 cases of settler violence in the area of Yitzhar in the past six months.

Israeli police were not immediately available for comment.
