Get MAD at downtown Spring Arts Festival
Music, Art, Dance to fill streets
Demonstrations, music, flowers and paintings will help set the scene for the 2013 Spring Arts Festival in Kamloops this week as the Kamloops Central Business Improvement Association and the Kamloops Arts Council come together for the third annual festival.
The three-day festival begins today, Thursday, May 23 at a number of downtown locations but by Saturday the action will all move to Victoria Street as the 300-block is shut to vehicles and utilized as a pedestrian corridor from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m.
Clowns, artist demonstrations and mini murals will fill the downtown core on Thursday and on Friday $5 spring flower bouquets and chalk art will be added the festivities. An artisans show and sale will be featured Saturday, as well as live demonstrations, workshops, a mascot parade, entertainment on the street and the main stage as well as a public mural. Live music will take place all three days and local shops will be holding sidewalk sales during the festival.
On Saturday the city will also be hosting a public works open house at 955 Concordia Way from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. and there will also be a bike rodeo at Interior Savings Centre as a kick off to Bike to Work Week.
