Building permits remain status quo in June

KAMLOOPS – June saw little change over last year when it comes to building permits issued in the city.

Housing starts in Kamloops were on an upswing during the first few months of 2015, but this past May they declined and now June they have plateaued.

Single family housing permits issued were exactly the same this June as in June 2014, at 19, but are up three from last month. June of 2015 saw a relatively large increase in multi-family permits though, with seven compared to just one in June 2014.

The total number of residential permits issued between the years varied by only one with 30 permits issued in June 2015 and 29 issued June 2014.

While the numbers have calmed down, Kamloops has already issued 191 residential permits this year, 24 more then it did in the first six months of 2014.

The total value of permits was roughly of $600,000 more over the previous June, with roughly $11 million worth of permits issued last month.

In total 846 permits valued at just under $88 million have already been issued in 2015. By comparison, 708 permits valued at roughly $62 million were issued in the first six months of 2014.
