Coroner identifies woman killed on bicycle in Vernon

VERNON – A woman killed when she was hit by a pickup truck while riding her bike in downtown Vernon July 2 has been identified. 

Jennifer Wadsworth, 37, of Vernon, was a mother of two daughters.

She was riding eastbound on 25 Avenue at roughly 6:20 a.m. when she was in a collision with the truck. She was taken to hospital in Vernon, then transferred to Kelowna General Hospital for more intensive treatment. She died the next day.

RCMP spokesperson Gord Molendyk says it appears the woman rode in front of the truck and the driver of the truck was not responsible for the accident.

The B.C. Coroners Service and RCMP Traffic Services continue to investigate.

According to her obituary, a celebration of life is scheduled for July 13 at the Okanagan Landing Community Church.

"Jennifer was a caring mother and a loving person who loved to sing and dance, eat sweets and chocolate and knit blankets for orphans," the obituary says.
