Kamloops construction update comes with RCMP warning

KAMLOOPS – While navigating your way home through congested construction zones be aware the RCMP are watching you.

Police will be stepping up enforcement in these zones and are reminding motorists that speeding can incur fines of up to $483 and a seven-day vehicle impoundment.

Wednesday, July 15, Fourth Avenue between Columbia Street and the alleyway near the Travelodge motel will be closed to accommodate B.C. Hydro work. This same section of Fourth Avenue will once again be closed for B.C. Hydro work on Monday, July 20.

The south side of Columbia Street remains closed. Pedestrians are asked to use the north sidewalk and crosswalks at Fourth Avenue and Third Avenue to access the hospital and south side businesses.

Only two lanes in either direction remain open on Columbia Street between Third Avenue and Sixth Avenue.

Crews continue to pour concrete as part of the Overlanders Bridge project. In an effort to minimize the impact on the concrete pour, motorists are reminded of the 30 kilometres per hour speed limit through the construction zone. Pilot vehicles will be on stand by and used to enforce the speed limit as needed.

Only two lanes in either direction remain open on the bridge deck. The Fortune Drive sidewalk is open to pedestrians, however the pedestrian ramp connecting Fortune Drive to Tranquille Road is still closed until further notice.

Tuesday, July 14, there will be a full road closure at the intersection of 12th Street and Lethbridge Avenue with detours in effect.

During the week, there will also be intermittent closures on 12th Street to allow for installation of services to individual houses. Detours will be in effect.

    also having a flaggerat Columbia & 5th Ave would help us use the. roses walk there….there WAS a flagger there and he stood 20 ft away frm the side of the road with his head hanging down… ridiculous!

    please have flaggers who know how to do their jobs….and pls have a flagger at Columbia St and 5th Ave,,,impossible to turn out of the govt building
