Man sentenced in sending of ecstasy from Europe to Colorado

DENVER – A man identified by authorities as the leader of an international drug syndicate that mailed thousands of ecstasy pills from Europe to Colorado was sentenced to 11 years in prison under a plea deal.

The Denver Post reports Filip Lucian Simion was sentenced Wednesday in federal court in Denver after pleading guilty to importing ecstasy into the U.S. and conspiracy to conduct illegal financial transactions.

Simion was arrested following a multinational investigation that found he and co-conspirators from across Europe had sent thousands of doses of ecstasy to Denver and Boulder between 2013 and 2016.

U.S. Customs and Border Protection agents in Ohio had intercepted a parcel from Belgium containing 60.9 grams of ecstasy in June 2013.

According to court documents, Simion will reveal details about the syndicate to authorities as part of his plea deal.
