Mountain Equipment Co-op coming to Kelowna
KELOWNA – Outdoor enthusiasts will soon have another option when shopping for outdoor gear, Mountain Equipment Co-op has announced it is coming to Kelowna next spring.
The legendary Vancouver outdoor outfitter will open a 20,000-square-foot location in the former Future Shop location in Orchard Plaza Shopping Centre in Kelowna.
In addition to its outdoor products, the co-op is planning a full-service bike and ski repair shop and plans to extend its events programming to the Okanagan including the MEC Race and Century Ride series.
Its retail offerings will be slightly different than in its other stores. In a press release, MEC says the product line at the new store will be tailored to regional activities and member preferences. The company says there are already more than 40,000 members in the region, from Kamloops to Osoyoos.
MEC currently has 18 locations across six provinces, including five locations in B.C. — Vancouver, North Vancouver, Langley, the University of B.C. campus and Victoria.
