Impaired driving investigation turns up drug haul in Salmon Arm
SALMON ARM – They stopped him for impaired driving, but came away with so much more.
Around 2 a.m. July 14, Salmon Arm RCMP got a tip about an impaired driver on the Trans-Canada Highway, but when they stopped the vehicle and began their investigation they found 1.5 kgs of cocaine in the vehicle, according to a release by Staff Sgt. Scott West.
A 26-year-old man was arrested and held in custody. West says the cocaine is worth roughly $70,000 but likely much more at street level.
"The driver has connections to the Lower Mainland of B.C., Northern Alberta and the Yukon," West says. "The intended destination of the drugs is unknown at this time."
