Former New Delhi restaurant building in Vernon to be demolished

VERNON – There will soon be one more parking lot, and one less building downtown Vernon.

The city owned building at the corner of 29 Street and 30 Avenue near the Vernon library which many knew as the New Delhi Indian Restaurant, is getting demolished. There was a fire in the building back in December, deemed suspicious at the time.

The city got $126,000 from the insurance company, according to recently declassified information. That money will go towards demolishing the building and constructing a parking lot in its place.

But curry lovers need not fear, the owners of New Delhi reopened just down the street under a new name, Saffron Touch. You can find them at 3010 – 30 Avenue.
