Midweek crimes include man shot with an arrow

PENTICTON – Penticton RCMP were kept busy late Wednesday afternoon and evening with assaults and an attempted robbery in the city.

Penticton RCMP received a call to an assault in progress at 5:18 p.m. on Wednesday, July 15 in the vicinity of West Bench Hill Road above Doc’s Golf Centre on Highway 97.

Police were told it appeared two men had been involved in a collision and both were out of their vehicles. One man was apparently assaulted with a baseball bat. The suspect got into his vehicle and drove away before police arrived, but they eventually apprehended the man, who made a court appearance July 16.

Penticton RCMP then answered a call from B.C. Ambulance to attend the 100-block of Sunnybrook Drive on Wednesday, July 15 at approximately 5:23 p.m.

There they found emergency personnel treating a 35-year-old Penticton man who had been shot in the arm with an arrow. The officers spoke to the man who refused to provide information about how he was shot. The investigation continues.

That evening, RCMP received a report of an attempted robbery at a restaurant in Penticton.

Police were informed two men, brandishing a weapon, tried to rob the staff at the local restaurant. When the suspects were confronted by patrons, they quickly departed in a burgundy Ford F150 pickup. Officers were able to locate the suspect vehicle and the suspects.

Three Williams Lake residents appeared in court Thursday, July 16 on charges stemming from the incident.

I have been looking for news in the South Okanagan - SImilkameen for 20 years, having turned a part time lifelong interest into a full time profession. After five years publishing a local newsletter, several years working as a correspondent / stringer for several local newspapers and seven years as editor of a Similkameen weekly newspaper, I joined iNFOnews.ca in 2014. As an airborne geophysical surveyor I travelled extensively around the globe, conducting helicopter borne mineral surveys.

As a member of the Kaleden community, I have been involved in the Kaleden Volunteer Fire Department for 22 years, and also serve as a trustee on the Kaleden Irrigation District board.
I am currently married to my wife Judy, of 26 years. We are empty-nesters who enjoy living in Kaleden with our Welsh Terrier, Angus, and cat, Tibbs.
