Hundreds hit giant slip and slide in Kamloops
KAMLOOPS – The clouds and cool temperatures aren’t deterring the hundreds of people lining up for an epic slip and slide on Hillside Drive in Kamloops today.
The much-anticipated Slide the City is in town with its 1000-foot vinyl slide on Hillside between Hillside Way and Notre Dame Drive.
There are reports of delays getting the event started this morning, but once the water started flowing the fun got underway.
Tickets for the event ranged in price from $25 for a single slide, three slides for $45 and $65 for an unlimited sliding pass.
Along with the sliding, food vendors are on site.
Drivers need to be aware Hillside Drive is closed for the day. A detour is rerouting traffic onto the Trans Canada Highway.

What a huge disappointment, from the long lines, long wait times & the city shortening the slide. I hope there is some refund, bought the triple slide, went once….what a joke!!!

My kids were so excited but after waiting nearly 2 hrs to finally go down the first time my 5 yr old had had enough and went to the mall. I bought 3 passes to slide 3 times and only went down twice ( my son only going once) all of this took us 4 hrs, I expected to wait in line but this was just crazy, what a waste of time and money. Then to see that the slide was less than half the length they advertised is very disappointing.

2+ hour queue for 30 seconds of sliding.Slide itself was sloooow and the distance way less than the 1,000 feet advertised, maybe 400ft.Saw kids almost passing out from heat and dehydration waiting in the line, no drinking water supplied anywhere ($3.50 sugar drinks weren’t hard to find).Way, way oversold for the amount of sliding capacity provided. This company has put on dozens, probably hundreds of these events before… this wasn’t teething issues.Maybe better luck if and when there is a next time in Kamloops, but this event was a disaster.

We got 2 of 3 slides in. Chose NOT to wait another 3+ hours in line to get our 3rd slide. But we had fun for those 2 slides. Slide the City REALLY do need to get better organization. Not sure what that would look like, but they’ve got to try other ways to deal with those lines. Our time for sliding was between 9-11, but for second ride, ended up behind people who were scheduled 11-1. That was in part due to the 1/5 hour delay in getting things going. If we had gone for the 3rd slide, we would have ended up behind the next group which was 1-3. Add to that everyone who bought a so-called VIP pass which gave all-day access…there was no way to possibly get in 3 rides within the 2-hours allotted. We went with a really positive attitude, which is why we had a good time. That, and the great people in front and behind us we got to chat with while in line.

An awesome idea that was really poorly executed.

Concept is good but as per the other comments did not run as smoothly as it could and should have. We left after two slides ( having purchased three) and the only reason we got two in was because we were among the first to arrive.
