Top B.C. firefighters are in Penticton this week to share ideas, learn new ones and see the latest in rescue and firefighting hardware.

The South Okanagan Event Centre parking lot this weekend was filled with pumpers, ladder trucks and all-in-one vehicles. This was the expo portion of the week.

Members of the public mingled with some of the 200-plus delegates from 350 fire departments outside the centre on Saturday and Sunday. Young and old civilian visitors got to sit behind the wheel of a fire truck and learn how firefighters perform rescues in a building or on the sides of cliffs.

There were more 100 booths inside the building. Jaws-of-Life, formal dress uniforms and rappelling gear were some of the items being demonstrated. Training exercises such as live-burn sessions and workshops were held on site or at the Penticton fire training grounds.
