UPDATE: Boil water notice downgraded in Lake Country

The District of Lake Country in conjunction with Interior Health has downgraded the recent Boil Water Notice back to a water quality advisory effective immediately.

Recent testing and monitoring has shown water quality has improved and disinfection (chlorine) levels have recovered, according to a media release from the district.

Interior Health recommends that children, the elderly, people with weakened immune systems and anyone seeking additional protection drink boiled water or a safe alternative until further notice. For these at-risk populations, water intended for drinking, washing fruits or vegetables, making juice or ice, or brushing teeth should be boiled for one minute.

LAKE COUNTRY – People who get their tap water from the Beaver Lake source in Lake Country are being asked to boil it before drinking it.

The District of Lake Country and Interior Health have issued a boil water notice due to a malfunction in the automatic chlorination system, which resulted in a loss of disinfection, according to a media release issued July 27.

Water should be boiled for one minute before being used for drinking, washing fruit or vegetables, making beverages or ice, and brushing teeth, the release says.

The boil water notice will be in effect until further notice.

Utility superintendent Mike Mitchell says owners of all public facilities on the Beaver Lake water source must post boil water notices at all sinks or drinking water fountains the public has access to. As well, public fountains and taps may be turned off.

He says crews are flushing the system and collecting water samples to verify water quality.
