Readers respond to #maninbluesuit

KELOWNA – An InfoNews story about a recent visit by Prime Minister to the Shelter Cove wildfire last Friday has ignited a debate about political photo ops and our decision to not name the Prime Minister during a brief visit last Thursday.

The story, “Man in blue suit thanks firefighters,” was shared nation-wide and drew reaction from media outlets across the country. @adamproskiw was trending on Twitter and #maninbluesuit was also popular.

Numerous local and national radio shows featured the original story and it was also cited in the Huffington Post Canada and the Vancouver Observer for leaving out the Prime Ministers name and including a photo that highlights the firefighter in the background with the PM and Premier Christy Clark blurred in the foreground.

The story has gotten more than 11,000 Facebook likes and hundreds of comments ranging from the congratulatory and thankful to outwardly hostile and accusatory.
