Young Kamloops arsonist caught

KAMLOOPS – Several front yards were set on fire early this morning in Brocklehurst when a suspect lit gasoline soaked paper in driveways.

Around 1 a.m., today, July 28, Kamloops RCMP and Kamloops Fire Rescue were called to the 1100-block of Kamwood Place to investigate several yard fires. They found three small fires were lit in the front yards of homes. The fires did not cause any damage and were put out with minimal effort.

Police were quickly able to identify and locate the suspect but because of their age, there will be no charges under the Youth Criminal Justice Act. The investigation will be turned over to the Ministry of Children and Family Development for further action.

At this time it is believed that there is no further risk to the public as the suspect has been identified.
