Shiny and new Brown Road opens in time for Westside Daze parade
WEST KELOWNA – The $3.16 million dollar upgrade to Brown Road in West Kelowna is complete and it opened just time for the Westside Daze Parade.
The busy section of road between Main Street and Bering Road has a new road surface, new sidewalks, parking stalls, new street signs and pedestrian crossings. The overhead utility wires were buried and ornamental lampposts and street furniture installed.
District of West Kelowna taxpayers are on the hook for about $2.5 million, while the rest of the price tag was covered by grants from the federal government, B.C. Hydro and ICBC.
“This project will lead the way in the revitalization of our downtown and future development in the area,” mayor Doug Findlater said in a media release. “While we have experienced both successes and challenges in the end I believe we have met the expectation of residents and the business community.”
After the dignitaries cut the ribbon and smiled for the cameras, they got out of the way for the Westside Daze parade.
