HANOI, Vietnam – Vietnamese Communist-dominated National Assembly on Friday re-elected Nguyen Thi Kim Ngan as its chairwoman for a five-year term following elections in May.
Ngan, the sole candidate, won more than 97 per cent of the votes from the 494 deputies.
In her acceptance speech, the 62-year-old Ngan pledged to improve the assembly’s activities to make it a “National Assembly of unity, creativeness and action for the interests of the people, the national pride and for the country’s sustainable development.”
The assembly is expected to re-appoint President Tran Dai Quang and Prime Minister Nguyen Xuan Phuc next week.
