Residents displaced after Summerland kitchen fire

PENTICTON – Residents of a Summerland home have found alternate accommodation following a kitchen fire yesterday.

Summerland Assistant Fire Chief George Pugh says firefighters responded to a fire at home on Nixon Road around 3:30 p.m., July 29.

Firefighters arrived on scene to find flames "centred around a dishwasher" in the kitchen of the residence.

“We were able to knock the flames down right away, but there was extensive smoke damage to the house and fire damage in the kitchen,” Pugh says.

An early investigation points to the cause as electrical.

The homeowner arrived home to hear his smoke alarm and was attempting to douse the flames from outside with a garden hose when firefighters arrived.

Summerland firefighters were on scene for two hours.

Emergency Social Services were on scene, as were Summerland RCMP and B.C. Ambulance paramedics.

No injuries are reported in the incident.
