First ever evening Kelowna market happening downtown
KELOWNA – Kelowna’s first after hours street vendor market takes place in downtown Kelowna tonight and promises to be a funky one.
Arts of the Avenue was started by Festivals Kelowna after shutting down the row of street vendors which have lined the walkway leading into City Park for more than 15 years.
Festivals Kelowna director Renata Mills says the move was made to broaden the appeal and ensure the artists community has at least one day to share their talents with the public.
“Arts on the Avenue is a reflection of the interest in the whole night market idea,” she says. “We’re going to feature very different kind of artists we’ve not had the opportunity to work with before. We want it to be funky and different and visual arts focused.”
The one day, outdoor event features work by visual artists, retail sales, art exhibitions, performance art and more. There will also be live music and an interactive community art project.
The market takes place between 5 p.m. and 10 p.m., July 30, on the 300-block of Bernard Avenue between Pandosy Street and Water Street.
